Dave is a committee member and Tuesday walk co-ordinator for the Doncaster Ramblers. He's been involved in the ramblers group for eight years since he retired in 2010.
With over 200 members across all ages, the ramblers group is a popular way to see the local countryside, meet up with like-minded people and stay active.
Many of the groups oldest members are also amongst the most active, with a number of over 80 year-olds regularly taking part in some of the groups longest and most challenging walks. Now, if they can do it, anyone can, truly an inspiration!
There are around 150 walks organised by Doncaster Ramblers for its members every year with walks every Tuesday and Saturday and other less frequent walks on Wednesdays and Thursdays, mainly in the warmer months.
Dave explains why he enjoys walking with the group so much: "There are few better ways of keeping fit than walking. We visit many areas and different terrains with walks ranging from easy local ones to more challenging and strenuous walks in Derbyshire. There's a security and reassurance in walking with a group and under the leadership of a well-prepared walk leader. Walking is also great for emotional wellbeing and it is an opportunity to meet up on a regular basis with many like-minded people."
Dave co-ordinates the ramblers weekly Tuesday walks and makes sure they have a full programme of interesting Tuesday routes planned throughout the year. He's also a member of the voluntary Ramblers maintenance team that repairs footpaths, stiles, steps and fences around Doncaster.
It's so easy to get involved!
