On your marks, get set, go for a new discounted leisure pass scheme, which will see children in care and care leavers enjoy up to 60% off a whole range of sporting and other activities.
The scheme, which has been launched thanks to a partnership between Doncaster Children's Service Trust and Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust, will also enable carers accompanying a child to go along for free.
By making leisure and fitness options more available it is hoped to support the general health and wellbeing of children and care leavers between the ages of 0 and 25.
Doncaster Children's Services Trust Chief Executive, Paul Moffat said: "Having access to leisure and fitness activities is an important part of any child's development but we know that, for some of the children and care leavers we work with, it can be too expensive on a tight budget. We hope that this new scheme will make leisure activities available to more people and we are really excited to be partnering with the Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust on this fantastic initiative."
Michael Hart, Chief Executive of Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust said: "We are pleased to be working in partnership with Doncaster Children's Services Trust to be able to provide young people in care and care leavers access to fitness across the borough at a reduced rate.
"We recognise that this will make a real difference to lots of children and young people and we are very proud to be able to offer carers accompanying a child access to the facilities for free. Again this will enable more young people in care to benefit from our facilities from swimming and skating to exercise and sport."
The benefits of getting into the habit of taking exercise at a young age were also highlighted by Doncaster Council's Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Schools, Councillor Nuala Fennelly, who said: "Leading an active lifestyle is vitally important throughout our whole lifetime and the introduction of the leisure pass is a great way to help make accessing facilities more affordable for children in care and their carers. It's an example of how the Get Doncaster Moving strategy and programme of activity aims to increase levels of physical activity across the borough, particularly in young people".
