Myles is the Head Coach at Wheatley Hills Tennis Club, one of two local clubs based in Doncaster.

He qualified as a coach in 2005 and has been based at the club for 10 years now. His love of the sport grew from picking up a racket at 40 years-old. As Head Coach Myles holds the only paid post at the club, everyone else involved is a volunteer and takes part for their love of the sport and supporting their local community.

A great way for all ages to keep fit

With almost 150 members between the ages of 4 and 84, the club is open to everyone, whether they've played tennis before or not.

Tennis is a non-contact sport so is great way to keep fit without the bumps and bruises of some other sports like football and rugby – that's why Myles first picked up a racket! Tennis allows you to play at your own speed or if you prefer to play with others there's always the option of playing a doubles match.

You don't need expensive clothes or rackets to play

Myles said: "Many people are put off from playing tennis because they haven't got a racket or think that they'll need to buy proper tennis clothes to take part. At our club we're really not like that – as long as you're wearing non-marking trainers you can play on our court. Turn up in jeans, shorts or whatever you feel most comfortable to play in, everyone is welcome. We've even got rackets and balls you can use if you don't have your own!

And for us it's not just about tennis. At Wheatley Hills we really have a community focus and welcome anyone to organise events – the Doncaster Ramblers regularly meet here, we have birthday parties, BBQs, quiz nights and lots of other events such as zumba and yoga."

Give it a try

Although the club runs a members scheme (click here for details) they have lots of other ways that local residents can give tennis a try. From £3 for 3 social sessions every Saturday and Sunday afternoon, to junior summer holiday camps and engagement events with local schools, Wheatley Hills has lots of different ways to give tennis a try.
