Local business and Friends of group help launch new Get Doncaster Moving Corporate Volunteering scheme

Local business Bubble Design was the first corporate client to take advantage of a new scheme, run by City Of Doncaster Council's Get Doncaster Moving team, which invites businesses to spend a volunteering day in one of Doncaster's many parks and green spaces.

This corporate volunteering scheme seeks to match up local businesses with a keen interest in giving back to the environment and community, with real projects within a local park or green space, already identified as being valuable and beneficial for the area.

Employees from Bubble Design spent the day at Hexthorpe Park. The morning saw the volunteers improving the Dell by tidying up the stream bed and removing overgrown plants from the side walls, as well as spending time working alongside local volunteer group Friends of Hexthorpe Flatts Park. In the afternoon, the volunteers did a Bioblitz survey to help catalogue the species in the park as well as learning more about the site and its value to the community.

Chris Theaker, Head of Web Design, Bubble Design commented: "We had a fantastic day volunteering at Hexthorpe Park and were proud to be able to contribute and give something back to the local community. The day gave us a real sense of achievement and the opportunity to spend some time together as a team, away from the office. A very fulfilling and rewarding day all round."

Councillor Nigel Ball (Portfolio Holder for Public Health, Leisure, Culture and Planning, City of Doncaster Council) said:

"I would like to thank Bubble Design for being the first business to take part in a Corporate Volunteering day with the Get Doncaster Moving team.

"As we have seen here, corporate volunteering is a great way to strengthen team relationships and skills, have fun together and create a real sense of shared achievement by enhancing an important community space – all while enjoying the benefits of being active in and around nature.

"I would urge local businesses to get in touch – we have funded places available this year, and we'd welcome businesses of all sizes and sectors to come and spend a worthwhile day making a difference to one of Doncaster's many beautiful parks and green spaces."

The City of Doncaster Council's Get Doncaster Moving team work in partnership with The Conservation Volunteers to deliver corporate volunteering days, meaning that businesses are in the safe hands of an experienced and knowledgeable team, with access to high quality equipment and provisions to maximise comfort and ensure that the day is enjoyable and rewarding. Corporate volunteering days are flexible and expertly tailored to the needs of each individual organisation and employees.

The Get Doncaster Moving Corporate Volunteering scheme is now open for applications and is funded for 2023, by Local Delivery Pilot funding awarded to Doncaster by Sport England and The National Lottery. Suitable for business of all sizes, business have a choice of locations across Doncaster meaning that they can select which area they'd like to work in, and have a choice of activities to suit all abilities, interests and the time of year.
