Great Doncaster LESStival 2024!

Public and private organisations, venues, business, education settings, and communities are being invited to take part in Doncaster's campaign to simply 'do more with less' this November!

A public consultation exercise which took place earlier this year saw Doncaster households share their areas for action when it comes to addressing climate change. The top three priorities named by the public were:

1. Making the things they buy and use last longer.
2. Reducing household energy bills.
3. Leaving the car at home, and exploring more walking, cycling and public transport options.

The Great Doncaster LESSTival will target the public's priorities by amplifying the varied resources, skills, and support that exist throughout Doncaster highlighting not just what we already do, but what further steps we may take to use even less, helping to reduce household expenditure in the run-up to Christmas.

This could be through promoting local markets and businesses who provide fresh local produce with limited packaging, supporting our local churches to achieve Eco Church accreditation through community engagement, hosting intergenerational repurpose & repair sessions, route planning for public transport, walking and cycling, larger organisations developing circular economy collaborations, grass roots sports providing refillable water cups to keep plastic off our pitches. The list is endless!

This priority will need everybody to help it become a reality, that is why City of Doncaster Council have listened to public feedback and acted on an area which is important to many people and will have so many positive consequences from less reliance on harmful materials to more monthly finances for residents to spend elsewhere.

To further support this activity, for smaller community organisations, including schools and Parish Councils, a micro-grant scheme is available to fund your activities. Last year funded activities included – storytelling sessions, period poverty packs for school-aged girls, international food growing and cooking sessions, eco anxiety/mindful sessions, and fashion repair workshops.

Applications will be accepted to up to 31st October 2024. For more details, and to apply see: Great Doncaster Lesstival 2024 - YourLifeDoncaster
